Reflection Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process (Part 4)
In this project we were ask to step outside the 2D spectrum and work with the 3D. For the 3D I worked with ArcScene instead of ArcMap. For the 3D, I went and received help from Angie in the GIS again. She helped me through the process of bringing in the layers from the 2D model and then raising them a little bit above each other so we can get an idea of what it looks like.
I am not use to ArcScene and I need to watch more tutorials on it, but I think I will be able to understand more if I do. This program is still based on layers just like most design programs are. GIS is still hard for me to understand but it is a very useful program for anything you need to find out about your site.
Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process (Part 4)
2D
Map North of White River Downtown Muncie, IN
This map shows the different layers of land use, trees, roads, topography, and
floodplain. It was then clipped to only show the site area that we discussed in
class.
3D
Map North of White River Downtown Muncie, IN
This
map shows the 3D view of the site above. It isn't exaggerated too much but it
gives you the idea of all these layers that are described above, and how they
work together. This was created on ArcScene.
Reflection Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process (Part 3)
This assignment
was more interesting than the other ones for me just because you get to mess
around with new things like color, changing it, making new maps, etc. I really
like how you can just go in and find any information that you need about your
site and then portray that information, once again, any way you want that reads
more clear. It is still a little fuzzy to me on how to do some things in GIS,
but with watching more Lynda videos, I think that it will help. I was actually
thinking about taking a GIS class over the summer, or possibly getting a minor
in it.. Who knows? But I do like GIS even though it can be difficult learning
at times.
Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process (Part 3)
For the assignment we were to do a spatial analysis. I just figured they wanted to see a zoomed in view of the site and look at what is there (the main things). So I decided to put in topography, flood plain, trees and streets.
For the second map, I did the hill shade, which is what we worked on in class. This just shows the shading of the site using a lighter and darker orange/yellow. The darker orange areas are the ones that are more shaded than the lighter yellow areas.

Reflection Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process (Part 2)
In this assignment, it wasn't as hard as the first because you are starting to get an idea of what to do. This was just adding more layers as you go and saving the maps with more details on them. For the first map it is just Indiana and the Delaware county boundary. The second is zoomed in with roads just in the county. Third is more detailed with topography added, and so on.
The details of the maps are under them, along with the legend and you can look at the map more closely and you will be able to read them very easily.

Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process (Part 2)
For these set of maps, it simply is just zooming in and getting more detailed as it goes down. All this information is from GIS. These maps have descriptions under them and it includes a legend so you can get an idea of what exactly you are looking at.

Reflection Unit 04: Analysis & Design Process
For this assignment we had to make a map on GIS with seven different layers. My map was of Ball State University with layers such as roads, railroads, apartments, lakes and rivers, green spaces, BSU border, etc. This was hard at first because it is a little hard to follow along and do what the professors are doing, all at once. I struggled to figure it out so I went to the GIS lab in the library and had Angie help me. GIS is great for site analysis, which I think we're getting into here soon.
